Factors that greatly affect the cost of plating include the material of the product, the thickness of the plating, and the type of plating.

[ Plating type ]

Plated Price: Silver <Gold <Pink Gold < OR (Original Rhodium) < Platinum Plated

Silver color: Only the pattern is silver. There's really no silver in it. It's a common color that we often see at Namdaemun Wholesale Market.

Gold Plating: Some use real gold, but some use gold-colored raw materials. Still, the cost is a little higher than the regular silver color.

Pink Gold Plated: Silver design may use a little bit of real gold, but I tend to use similar color materials like gold plated.

OR (Original Rhodium) Plating: Using original rhodium increases the cost of plating from this point on. OR is really expensive. So I don't use it for accessories, but I use it for products that are more than silver. 

Occasionally, some wholesalers use it for accessories, earrings, necklaces, and rings, but the cost is so high that they are gradually reducing their use due to price competitiveness.

If the plating area on the product is large like a necklace bracelet, there will be a big difference in the plating price. Then, we will sell products larger than earrings, such as necklaces and bracelets, at different prices depending on the type of plating.

Silver plating (Silver 92.5 < Gold < Pink Gold < OR (Original Rhodium) < Platinum Plating) is the same concept, but silver is more difficult to plating, so even if it is the same area of plating than ordinary new products (ordinary products), it is more expensive. 

 

So gold or rose gold silver earrings (necklace…))Some stores sell silver products + silver plating for 1,000 to 2,000 won more than silver.

Nickel (plating) has the advantage of being more shiny and discolored than non-nickel (plating). However, the nickel component is also the cause of allergies. I'll explain the plating again later.

***Nickel is free of nickel. Non-Nickel plating has the disadvantage of slightly less gloss and easier discoloration than nickel plating, but it also has the advantage of lower allergy probability than nickel.

I heard from the wholesaler that the plating is thicker in other plating processes because there is no nickel. So they say that the price goes up a bit as much as it gets thicker, but there's actually no big difference.

And in China, it is said that the price of non-ickel plating and the price of nickel plating are the same.

It is said that the price of non-nickel plating is higher than that of nickel plating only in Korea.

[ Plating thickness: Thicker, more expensive ]

Regular retail sellers (shopping malls, offline stores) or consumers don't really care about the thickness of the plating. In fact, you wouldn't have thought about the thickness of the plating because you don't know what affects the quality of the product rather than not caring.

The thicker the plating is, the more gloss the surface is and the longer the plating is discolored. The discoloration is because the surface is corroded or peeled off, so if the outer plating is thick, the discoloration will naturally be late. However, to reduce production costs, the plating thickness is also thinned.

The production cost will decrease, but when it was first produced, it looks the same, so we don't know if the plating is thick or thin. However, if the plating thickness is thin, the gloss of the plating starts to discolor quickly.

Sometimes at wholesale stores... That's what they do. "We make the plating thick." In other words…It means, "You might think it's expensive, but I paid attention to quality."

[ Special plating ]

Electroplating
There is normal plating and electroplating, and electroplating makes the plating glow and less discoloration. But then again, the cost of plating goes up. But ordinary people can't tell the difference, so wholesale stores tell you in advance.

"My house uses electroplating".

"The cost has gone up, but... I'll give you the same price. But... the quality is better, so please know this."

"It's going to be expensive. The sales price went up a little, but... But the quality is better. "Please know this~"

However, in the past, if it was just immersed in a plating solution and taken out, now it is a method of immersing the plating solution and sending electricity to the product so that the plating solution sticks better. Nowadays, most wholesalers do electroplating.

[ Coating ]

You can think of the coating as covering the outer plating of the product. This means coating one layer. Coating definitely lasts a long time. 

Plating is weak against sweat or salt, but coating creates a film on the plating, so the plating lasts a long time because salt or air does not directly contact the plating. However, coating on the existing plating once again causes an increase in cost.

Ordinary retailers don't know about this, but when exporting overseas, they sometimes coat it at the request of the buyer. When exporting overseas, it is often more sensitive to discoloration. Then, even if the cost goes up, if you think it's better to coat it to prevent discoloration, you do it.

However, wholesalers don't coat the plating often, but if you coat it, it puts a film on the plating, so the color of the plating becomes a little cloudy, and it doesn't come out properly when re-plating.

In other words, there is a lot of need to repaint AS or inventory for discoloration, but wholesalers do not prefer it because of difficulties at that time.
